In the Arts Council Gallery
Bruton Smith Collection
September 4-October 20
In 1985, Bruton Smith of Lowes Motor Speedway gave the arts council 23 paintings by North Carolina artists valued at $40,000. Because the council didn’t have anywhere to display or even store them, they found their way to other places in the community. Visual Arts Director Lin Barnhardt has gathered them from the walls and storage at the county government building and the Cooperative Christian Ministry offices and will hang 14 of them in the Arts Council Galleries. The exhibition, Selected Works from the Bruton Smith Collection, includes works by Tucker Cooke, William Dunlap, Maud Gatewood, Barbara Harmeyer, Mary Anne Jenkins, R. L. Johnston, Richard Kinnaird, Mary Ellen Little, Don Mahy, Robert Marsh, Lloyd Miller, Phillip Moose and Stephen White.
In-Sink by Randy Calhoun
Through September 29
In-Sink is an exhibition of artistic designs to perk up a bathroom. It includes four hand-thrown stoneware sinks by Randy Calhoun and handmade natural soaps by Bobbie Rae Moose.

Vintage Viewpoints Opens November 10 During Art Walk
Vintage Viewpoint, an exhibition looking back at Cabarrus County history, will open with a reception during the Art Walk Friday, November 10, 7-10 p.m.
The exhibition will include paintings and photographs by Mel Kester, Joe Colbert, Verdie Hahn, Margaret Holt and Lawson Bonds. It is being curated by Lin Barnhardt, visual arts director, and local artists George Engstrom and Jennie Martin Tomlin.
The first very successful Art Walk was held in late July and brought hundreds of people to Concord for an evening of art, entertainment and dining. The second Art Walk promises to be even bigger and better. For a list of participants, special events and a map, visit the www.cabarrusartscouncil.org after October 15.
