Corporate Fundraising Campaign Surpasses Goal
Businesses in our community have once again endorsed the arts council’s work by giving generously to the corporate fundraising campaign. Under the direction of Marie Kluttz and our hard-working board members, the arts council has surpassed its $74,500 goal for 2006-2007 by more than $12,000.
The arts council’s $336,000 budget for 2006-2007 is composed of donations from corporations, individuals, foundations and local government, and each sector is essential to the success of the arts in
This year has been marked by many firsts: the arts council brought The Magic of African Rhythm to the Logan Community Center; The Latin Ballet of Virginia conducted week-long residencies at five elementary schools and offered a workshop at the Hispanic Learning Center; The Latin Ballet of Virginia presented a brilliant multimedia dance performance at the Glenn Center Theatre free of charge for an audience of over 350; we more than tripled the amount of grant money distributed to local arts groups and programs; and we moved to the historic courthouse which presents many exhibition and performance opportunities.
A tremendous amount of interest in the arts council's activities has been generated by its move downtown. Its offices in the historic courthouse place it in the center of activity with the potential of drawing more visitors to the county.
