Thanks to All for Another Successful Year . . . By Jim Greene

Arts Council President

My second term as Cabarrus Arts Council President ends June 30, 2005.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience as president and appreciate the opportunity.  Cabarrus Arts Council is a growing, vibrant organization that is playing an important role in improving the quality of life for all citizens of Cabarrus County .

I have been impressed with the support for the arts in our community.  This year’s Cabarrus Arts Council fund raising breakfast set records for both attendance and amount of funds raised.  Over 300 people attended, giving more than $36,000 to help support the arts.  The Cabarrus Arts Council uses these funds for programming in our schools, to provide grants to other arts organizations and to help fund other activities of the arts council.  Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s breakfast and for your financial contributions.

I am excited to report that Sara Heiser has been nominted by the board to serve as president of the Cabarrus Arts Council for next year and Dakeita Vanderburg-Horton will serve as vice president.  Sara and Dakeita have both served on the board for several years and will be a wonderful team to lead the Cabarrus Arts Council next year.  They both have a love of the arts and share a vision of a strong and active arts council.

As my term as president draws to a close, I would like to thank those who serve on the Cabarrus Arts Council Board of Directors.  I have never worked with such an energetic and committed group.  I very much appreciate the time and hard work each board member has given to the arts council and know that the growth and success of the arts council would be impossible without such a dedicated group of volunteers.  I would also like to thank Cabarrus Arts Council staff—Noelle Scott, Pat Verner and Carrie Myers.  They put in many hours to guide the organization and make sure our programs are well organized.

Finally I would like to thank all of those who support the arts in Cabarrus County whether it is through financial gifts, volunteering to assist with an event or attending one of our many programs.  Community support is crucial to the arts council growth. I encourage everyone to “Take Part in the Arts.”
