Summer Concerts Draw 30,000+


From the symphony to beach music to big band sounds -- it was a big summer for outdoor concerts in Cabarrus County .

Partnerships between the arts council, Concord Downtown Development Corporation, Kannapolis Parks and Recreation, Concord Parks and Recreation, Cabarrus Parks and Recreation, CT Communications, First Charter, The Independent Tribune and WDAV 89.9 brought 10 free performances to the county.

Pops in the Park concerts drew over 14,000 and featured the North Carolina Symphony at Frank Liske Park in Concord and the Charlotte Symphony at Village Park in Kannapolis . The Union Street Live series in downtown Concord included the bands Deja Vu, Band of Oz, John Love and Uncle Thunder and Badge.  Kannapolis’ new Coca-Cola Summer Concert Series brought Andrew Thelien and the Planet Hollywood Big Band, Magic Band of Gold, Coconut Groove Band and Too Much Sylvia to Village Park .

In addition, more than 3,000 children and families participated in library performances co-sponsored by the arts council:  the Concord Library’s Downtown Camp Daze and the Kannapolis Library’s Stories Under the Stars.
