The Brand New Bluegrass Boys are a group of multitalented musicians who bring traditional music to a new level. Featured are Jeff Whittington, who performed on the Grand Ole Opry and was a staff musician on the Arthur Smith television show; Tom Isenhour, who has won an array of musical competitions; Joe Mahaffey, a founding member of Blue Denim and former Homestead Records recording artist; Mike Lambert, who has performed throughout the Piedmont solo and with various groups; John Culbreath, who has played with bluegrass greats Vassar Clements and Mac Wiseman; and Tom Frew, a Scottish drummer often called that “amazing kid drummer.”
Concert-goers are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and picnics. Pets should be left at home, and alcohol is not permitted in the parks. Food and beverages will be available from a variety of vendors.
The Pops concerts are made possible thanks to arts council sponors CTCommunications, First Charter and The Independent Tribune and media sponsor WDAV 89.9.
Pops is one of three major concert series the arts council is co-sponsoring this summer. The other two are the Concord Downtown Development Corporation's Union Street LIve on the third Thursday of each month on the Historic Courthouse Lawn in Concord and the Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department's Coca-Cola Concert Series in the Village Park Amphitheater in Kannapolis
.
